What are your questions about life in the regions?

The real estate market is more affordable outside of Montreal. In the regions, condos and houses are sold at a fraction of the price of Montreal… and they often have large plots! Prefer to rent rather than buy? Our partners usually assist families of immigrants in their search for housing. Yes, you can find your home in a smaller version of Montreal!

Of course! Whether they come from the area or are newly established, many families settle in the regions, where they find a convenient and serene environment where children can thrive. In our time, children are welcomed into schools and daycares with open arms, without prejudice. Settling in the regions is a family project, and Emploi en regions makes sure that young and old alike find wellness and peace of mind.

Prejudice doesn’t apply anymore: Regional communities are open-minded and happy that you chose them. Don’t be shy, get out and greet others. Regions have been making efforts to diversify their populations for years, and it shows. Since 2020, more and more immigrants are choosing to settle outside of Montreal. Worried about staying single? We have dating apps here as well, promised!

There are more opportunities than you think, you’ll see! Parent councils, gardening groups, theatrical troops, apple picking, festivals, sugar shacks, neighbourhood activities (soccer, swimming, tennis, hockey, etc.), volunteering… The region is the perfect place to stop repeating “One day, I’ll have time to do the things I want.” Here, there is always something to do and time to do it, and, as a result, plenty of opportunities to mingle and join the community.

It all depends on the region and your location. Many cities have a perfectly functioning bus, taxi-bus and carpooling system. However, it is important to have a driver’s licence when you live in further regions like Côte-Nord or Abitibi. For bicycle enthusiasts, our province is known for its well-groomed cycle paths, equipped with useful services to make rides pleasant and easy.

With some exceptions, you will find the same health care in the regions as in Montreal. Besides, the lower number of citizens often indicates shorter wait times and, above all, the task of finding a family doctor easier.
Good news: To retain their employees, most employers offer advantageous medical insurance plans.

Several regional cities belong to the metropolitan train network (AMT) that goes to Montreal, so travelling to the metropolis is a breeze. Depending on your location, you could even get there by bus. Also, carpooling is a popular means of transport in the region. Obviously, if you have a car, there’s no problem! Here, all roads lead to Rome… er, to Montreal!

Absolutely not: You can find the big grocery chains across the province. Even better: You will a much more direct access to Quebec’s delicious products and produce. Blueberries from Lac-Saint-Jean, shrimps from Matane, apples from Rougemont! Did you ever dream of growing your own produce? Large lots make gardening easy, and you could even raise chickens or bees! In addition, more and more shops (supermarkets, multi-ethnic grocery stores and convenience stores) offer items inspired by world cuisine.

Take the first step. I introduce myself with a positive attitude and state how happy I am to live in Quebec and work for this company. This will make me look friendlier to my colleagues, who will be more likely to take me under their wing.

If possible, I spend lunchtime with my coworkers.

I accept their first invitation for a drink (beer). There are plenty of non-alcoholic options for those who don’t drink.
